The Shanghai Quartet has earned its reputation as one of the world’s outstanding string quartets by performing exceptional repertoire in the world’s leading music halls. Currently in residence at MSU, this premiere ensemble was formed in Shanghai over 25 years ago and is known for passionate musicality, astounding technique and multicultural innovations. For this, the first of two concerts this season; the Shanghai explores works by Brahms and Schubert featuring the Brahms Viola Quintet in G Major op.111 with Cynthia Phelps, principal violist of the New York Philharmonic, the Brahms Quartet in A minor op.51 no.2 and Quartetsatz by Schubert.
